Item history
Herb Bentley born in Millthorpe 1.5.1885 where he lived all his life. Herb with his horse and tip dray were a legend around the town, and the surrounding Lyndhurst shire from 1923 to 1950. He worked for the council, as general maintenance man for the town of Millthorpe, and travelling as far as Forest Reefs, Tallwood, Greghamstown, Polona, Brown's Creek, camping for the week in various sheds on farms. His jobs included, cleaning drains and gutters, pruning trees, filling potholes etc. But always accompanied by his horse, George, and tip dray. Herb was hit in the eye with a blue metal stone, and had to have his eye removed. This caused his retirement in 1950
